Secon Freight Logistics

In this case study, we explore how InboundConnect partnered with Secon Freight Logistics to revolutionize their operations, enhance sustainability, and foster a trusted partnership. By leveraging our innovative solutions and through a shared commitment to making positive change, Secon Freight Logistics achieved remarkable improvements in efficiency, sustainability, and customer satisfaction.

Background

Secon Freight Logistics is a leading provider of port logistics services at the Port of Melbourne.

One of the services it provides to its clients is a Container Freight Station, which unpacks and packs freight-of-all-kinds (FAK) containers, and in the course of this Secon is required to deal with large numbers of vehicles of all types and sizes that had traditionally arrived at random to pickup and dropoff freight.

This situation created a number of operational challenges that Secon wanted to solve for itself and its clients to improve efficiency and service, as well as compliance challenges. Secon were willing to solve these challenges, but there was no obvious way in which to do so.

What they needed was a technology partner who could help them embrace technological advancements and optimize their logistics processes while maintaining their reputation for reliability and customer service.

Challenges

1. Outdated Processes:

Secon Freight Logistics relied on traditional, paper-based logistics processes, resulting in inefficiencies, delays, and increased resource consumption. In particular, truck queuing and an inability to plan labour and equipment needs were key challenges.

2. Environmental Impact:

The company recognized the need to reduce carbon emissions and adopt sustainable practices to align with its own environmental goals, and the demands of its customers.

3. Industry Disruption:

The logistics industry was experiencing rapid digital transformation, and Secon Freight Logistics needed to embrace technology to remain competitive and provide superior service to its customers.

Solution

Inbound Connect partnered with Secon Freight Logistics in late 2021 to implement a InboundConnect’s flagship vehicle booking and visibility platform. The strategy focused on innovation, change management, sustainability and becoming a trusted partner. The key components of the solution are –

1. Implementation of Advanced Technology:

We introduced our cutting-edge logistics management software, including the InboundConnect VBS and the InboundConnect Drivers Licence Scanner. This enabled Secon Freight Logistics to streamline their operations, automate processes, and improve overall efficiency. The software provided real-time visibility, queue management, paperless operations and enhanced communication of potential impediments with drivers and customers.

2. Sustainable Logistics Solutions:

Together, we developed and implemented sustainable logistics solutions to reduce the company’s environmental impact. This included introducing paperless operations, reducing wasted (futile) truck trips and eliminating truck waiting (idling) time.

3. Collaborative Partnership:

We fostered a strong partnership with Secon Freight Logistics, collaborating closely to understand their unique needs and align our solutions with their business goals. Regular meetings and feedback sessions ensured ongoing improvement and fine-tuning of our services to meet their evolving requirements.

Secon Freight Logistics experienced faster order processing, eliminated queues which freed up yard space and improved the accuracy of freight receival and delivery.

2. Environmental Impact Reduction:

By integrating sustainable practices, Secon Freight Logistics significantly reduced their carbon emissions and overall environmental footprint. This included introducing paperless operations, reducing wasted (futile) truck trips and eliminating truck waiting (idling) time

3. Improved Customer Satisfaction:

The enhanced efficiency and real-time visibility provided by our logistics technology led to improved customer satisfaction. Secon Freight Logistics could offer accurate tracking information, faster response times, and greater transparency throughout the CFS process.
